Maximise Your EasyBusiness Use: Combined Searches

Using the Kompass Easybusiness database, you can refine and target your company searches based on a more than 5 million B2B companies, using more than 50 search filters. This precise targeting means that you can customise your searches in order to market your own products and services – as a buyer to find specific products – or to focus on specific market research.

Combined Searches

Combined searches enable you to select multiple search filters and combine these together in order to identify a specific set of companies. As you select search filters when using Kompass Easybusiness, by default they are combined together using ‘and’. But by using the Combine Filters option, you can also access and use the ‘or’ and ‘except’ operators.

1. Combinations using ‘and’

Example search – you manage a company that develops CRM software, you have decided to target companies based on the following criteria: they are based in Paris, with more than 500 employees and a turnover greater than €100million. The matching companies should include a telephone number and a sales contact.

  1. Select the Location filter, click on Location and type “paris” or click on the + to browse France…Ille de France, then tick to select Paris.
  2. Select the Employees filter, click on Company size and tick all the employee ranges greater than 500.
  3. Select the Executives filter, click on Executive function and tick the Sales Department.
  4. Select the Turnover filter, click on Turnover (by range) and select the Currency option for France, then tick all the turnover ranges greater than €100million.
  5. Select the Refine My Search filter, click on Company Information and tick the Phone option.
  6. All of the selected filters are displayed under My Filters and the Current Results indicator shows that the number of matching companies is 71.
  7. This is how you create a combination using ‘and’ – there are 71 companies that are in located in Paris AND have more than 500 employees AND have a turnover greater than €100million AND have a sales contact AND have a telephone number. Close the search box to view the list of matching companies.

However, should you want to make the list bigger, be less specific perhaps, you will need to change your search parameters. To find the same set of companies who have EITHER a turnover greater than €100million OR more than 500 employees, you will use an ‘or’ search operator.

2. Combinations using ‘or’

  1. Click on the Combine Filters button and use the drop down arrow to select Company size and then in the second box, select Turnover – change the operator to ‘or’ and then click on Confirm. Your first combination will be created and is called C1.
  2. Now we have to combine this with our other criteria in order to identify our set of target companies.
  3. Click on New Combination and then on the + to add a third combine box and use the drop down arrow to select Location, then Executive function and Company Information and then click on Confirm. Your second combination will be created and is called C2.
  4. Finally you need to combine these two combinations, so again click on New Combination. Use the drop down arrow to select C1 and then C2 and click on Confirm. Your third combination will be created and is called C3.
  5. This is how you create a combination using ‘or’ – there are 321 companies that are located in Paris AND who have a sales contact AND a telephone number AND either a turnover greater than €100million OR more than 500 employees. Click on the Load icon for C3 to view the list of matching companies.

But… you want to make the list even bigger and this time exclude companies with a turnover greater than €100million…

3. Combinations using ‘except’

  1. Click on the Combine Filters button and then on the + to add a third and fourth combine box and use the drop down arrow to select Location, then Company size, then Executive function and Company Information and then click on Confirm. Your fourth combination will be created and is called C4.
  2. Click on New Combination and use the drop down arrow to select C4 and then Turnover – change the operator to ‘except’ and then click on Confirm. Your final combination will be created and is called C5.
  3. This is how you create a combination using ‘except’ – there are 168 companies that are located in Paris AND who have sales contact AND a telephone AND more than 500 employees, but NOT any company who has a turnover greater than €100million. Click on the Load icon for C5 to view the list of matching companies.

4. Save your search

  1. To save your search, click on the Save button on the menu bar, type in a name and click on Save.

5. Open your search

  1. To open a previously saved search, on the menu bar, click on My Account – Saved Searches.
  2. All saved searches are listed with the most recent at the top of the list.

  4. Click on the Load icon and your search filters will be displayed under My Filters.
  5. Click on the Combine Filters button and all of your combinations will be displayed.
  6. Click on the Refresh icon to update the results as necessary. You can also modify any combination, create a new combination or click on the Load icon to view the list of matching companies.
